Melvin S. Jones, 74, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2014 under the care of Hospice Savannah.

He was a native of Blades, Delaware and graduate of Seaford High School in Seaford, Delaware. In 1961 he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. During his distinguished career he was most proud of serving as Crew Chief at Andrews Air Force Base where he was a mechanic for Air Force One. Upon retirement in 1984, he then went to American Airlines where he served as an Aircraft Mechanic Inspector. Mel was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be remembered for his pranks and jokes. He loved to make people laugh.

Survivors include his wife of fifty years, Sharon Ekdahl Jones; daughters, Lisa Marie Cory and Melani Lynn Arpin; grandchildren, Amber Renee Cory, Brandon Scott Cory, and brothers, Rodney Jones and Keith Jones.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 24, 2014 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 5:00 p.m. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a date to be announced.
